During your stay at the Cristal Palace you will be able to discover that Andria is a city rich in history and incredible artistic testimonies, among which three monumental bell towers stand out.

True jewels of local architecture, which have given Andria the title of “City of the Three Bell Towers”.

The Cathedral and its Norman Bell Tower

The Cathedral, dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta, is a masterpiece of architectural styles that has evolved over the centuries. The bell tower, of Lombard origin with Norman additions, stands imposingly at 50 meters in height. Its structure includes a Norman tower with two floors and a pyramidal spire, which culminates with a greenish rooster which, with its crown-like crest and wide sickle-shaped tail, collects and marks the direction of the wind.

The Bell Tower of San Francesco

The Bell Tower of San Francesco is a superb example of Baroque architecture. Built by the masters Vito and Domenico Ieva, this work in local stone also rises approximately 50 meters. The structure has a square base on which two floors rise, decorated with large windows and balustrades, followed by a third octagonal floor with a spire, crowned by a cross and a rotating weathervane.

The Bell Tower of San Domenico

The Bell Tower of the Church of San Domenico, the work of the master craftsman Domenico Ieva, stands out for its grandeur and originality. Standing over 50 meters tall, this Baroque bell tower features an arched base and a “pear-shaped dome” spire. The top houses a large bronze sphere with a weathervane depicting a dog with a lit torch, symbol of the Dominicans.

A Heritage to Discover

Each bell tower tells an important part of the history and art of Andria, capturing the attention of visitors with their beauty and majesty. Local stone structures not only enrich the urban landscape, but also represent a cultural heritage to be preserved and enhanced.
